The classic sugar cookie recipe we turn to every time that has crisp edges and soft centers. It feels particularly festive because the dough balls get rolled in sanding sugar which makes them sparkle and contributes to its slight crunch as you bite into it.

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 3/4 cups sugar

3/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar

1 cup (2 sticks) Vermont Creamery Sea Salt Cultured Butter - 82% Butterfat softened

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs

Sanding sugar

  • STEP 1

Heat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside.

  • STEP 2

Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in bowl. Set aside.

  • STEP 3

In a large bowl, beat butter, sugar, and brown sugar until well combined. Add vanilla and eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually add flour mixture, beating on low and scraping side occasionally, just until combined.

  • STEP 4

Shape dough into 1-inch balls; roll in sanding sugar.  Place onto prepared baking sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges just begin to brown.
